Stories from Kapar.......

It's THAT time of the month again. On Sat, 30/7/2011, Project MADE went on her feeding rounds with the help of Uma - our regular Sponsor/ Volunteer.

This month we came with a bigger mission......to establish a proper database on families whom we feed. To date, there is none that can be relied upon as our Local Contact Pax had not diligently collect infos on these families. Uma diligently took down important infos on the Kapar folks. Surprisingly, the Kapar Folks were VERY cooperative. It was not a problem at all!!

Read on for stories I collected during my rounds in Kapar.............

Above: Gabriel & his siblings. Gabriel's dad has a heart problem. He is unemployed. Only Gabriel's mom is working drawing a salary of RM250. It is difficult for this family with 5 growing children who are all studying. What I like most about this family is that they placed such importance on education. Gabriel is in Upper Six. In a few months, he will be sitting for his University Entrace Exams. He WANTS to go to Uni. His brother is in college doing a mechanical course. The rest are ALL in school. they seek assistance more for education. Project MADE has made several referals to an education foundation which will assist these inspiring children. As for the family, Project MADE will assist them with food items till the end of the year when Gabriel will finish his exams and he can go out to work. I am very hopeful of this family.

Above: Kalai has safely delivered....her sixth baby! And it is a GIRL! As usual I am elated with this news. With the usual Grocery Bag we brought with us some baby items for the new baby. 2 of her children will be in school next year. We have included her in our Back to School Prog 2012.

Above: Uma taking down details of Blindman the Tailor. Times are really bad for him & his family. However, his wife has taken on a small cottage industry at Home. Just to show you compassion has no barrier... a Malay lady came and gave her a job to do in the comfort of her home! They have an adopted son who is still in school. We will put him in our Back to School Prog 2012.

Above: This is Kugan's family. Kugan is Susan Sim's favourite Kapar boy. Susan "adored" Kugan from the day she set foot in Kapar. Everytime when I go for a visit, Susan never fails to send her love & wishes for Kugan. To Kugan - he looks forward to a message of love from his "Chie, Chie"! Love & affection transcends even the boundry of colour & creed!

A sad story awaits us when we came visiting. Apparently, Kugan's eldest sister who is 16 and is of the same age as my daughter is working at the nearby restaurant. She earns RM25 a DAY! And when we came Kugan was at work. He works at the nearby mechanic shop for RM15 a DAY! I cried in my heart when I heard these stories!

Kugan's dad is an alcholic! When he gets his salary, he blows it on cheap booze! Kugan's mom is the real bread winner.

Above: Shanti from Shanti Home. Shanti now has close to 15 pax living in the Home. We now put Shanti under a different Feeding Prog, which we call Kapar Feeding Prog 2. We now give Shanti Home 50kg rice, 5kg wheat flour, 3kg meehoon, 5kg sugar, 2pkts salt, dhall, 5 tins sardines, 5kg cooking oil, 1 tray eggs, RM15 worth of fresh veg.

Above: The "Screw Family" - they are now back in their dilapidated house! Apparently a political party has pledged to repair their house under the party's program. I have seen a similar program being carried out in Kuala Selangor. Hopefully, they will have a new home by Deepavali....

The girls were delighted with the MILO drinks we brought with us.

Above: Siribai & her MILO

Above: Project MADE with the assistance of Rotary Club Melawati donated the red wheel chair to this little boy. In fact there were 2 given to this family who has 4 children and 3 of them are handicapped children. The red wheel chair is well-used!

Above: these 2 men live with their aged mom. They are mentally challenged. Looks like this family will be assisted by Project MADE for a long time.....

Above: Kalai 5th child who is hardly 1 year old and has a new born sibling! What will the future holds for this child? He has a dad who is a "lazy" odd job worker, a mom whose passion is having babies, half a dozen of unclothed & unfed siblings - my heart bleeds when I think of him & scores of other children in Kapar ...........

Above: The ever smiling Kalai.......oblivious to what the future has in store for her children. Everytime we came Babu - the husband is at home sleeping soundly because he is "sicK". I have no heart to stop feeding them when I look at the children. Kalai is happy at least for the next few days, her children are fed.

Kalai goes out to work when she is abled, whixch most of the time .... not because she is always in the family way!!

When Friends Come Visiting....

Today : Sat, 16/7/2011, Kuala Selangor had the pleasure of being visited by a sister NGO - 1Month 1Charity. The convoy of 4 cars came to conduct The Feeding Program @ Kuala Selangor. We attracted quite an attention - albeit a very welcomed one - in the sleepy hollows of Kuala Selangor, Tanjung Karang, Batang Berjuntai & Ijok.

1Month 1Charity was represented by Chew - a wonderfully cheerful, helpful & optimistic gentleman, The Ong Family - comprising of Mr. Ong himself , his kind & gracious wife Wendy & their 2 young boys - who gamely distributed food stuffs to the families, Tony & Jacinta - who speaks a smattering of Tamil - much to our amusement, a group of young gentlemen from the Accounts Dept. Sunway College - they were very good as they helped to carry the heavy stuffs for us.

We started as early as 7ish from our respective homes and arrived at the the meeting place - IPD Kuala Selangor - way before the designated time. After a quick rounds of hellos, we had breakfast at the local Mamak Joint - generously paid for by Mr. Ong - we rearranged & reorganised ourselves into neat groups and we were ALL raring to GO......

Today we had 40 families to feed. A big number by any standard, however, the company was really good that the chore seemed lighter. Everybody was happy to do the work.

Our families in Kuala Selangor, seemed to be warmer towards our presence too. We were greeted by shouts of excitement from the children. Maybe they have gotten to know & trust us more? Eventhough the work is tough, I truly enjoyed myself. Even our Contact Pax seemed different today - he seemed lighter & happier too - maybe he is fulfilled after 2 weeks at the Theology College!! He even gave me a short sermon in the car - hmmm..... ( I think I may have to endure more of these sermons in future - good for my soul, guess).

I am sorry that I don't have any photos to post yet - but I promise I will later on ( Sorry - Project MADE's Photographer is on Study Leave - Exam coming, ma...)

1Month 1Charity brought with them 40 bags of 5kg rice, 40 Grocery Bags consisting of wheat flour, meehoon, salt, sugar, dhall, sardines, bath soap, infant formula & milk powder, biscuits for the children.

Project MADE brought a truckload of preloved clothes, toys, shoes to be distributed to the families. Thank you to Puan Aida, Lilian Fang & families, Lilian Si & friends, Ms. Chuah of Sri KDU Secondary School, Dawnn Chung - for those still good & wearble clothes. These will be used by our families. I have received requests for baby items which I will bring on our next round.

I hope this will not be the first & the last time that we at Project MADE, will be working with 1Month 1Charity - I certainly hope that we are able to work on many other projcets together. I personally would like to work with them again. Here's to a long & fulfilling woking relationship......

Thank You for Making A Difference!!
